 Have a great debate with friends following the track of ancient Chinese schools of thought. Defeat your opponent with the will of famous Chinese thinkers and their followers.

WHY I MADE THIS GAME

The Schools of thought content consist of the most interesting and meaningful knowledge presented by ancient Chinese thinker from different time period, yet few people nowadays want to learn about them through reading. Therefore, I desire to retrigger people’s interests and introduce the philosophy of those schools of content in a more understandable manner.
I begin with the idea of designing a card game that could simulate the debating process between different famous Chinese Schools of thought content that could provide players with an intense and exciting confrontation experience with their opponents. So, I researched through different schools of thought and select five most influential and famous ones to form five card group with different game strategies.

CASE STUDY

Since this is my first-time making card game, I research through different card games for inspiration towards mechanics and rules. Games like Magic the gathering, Slay the Spire, and Hearthstone all provide me with great insight towards the format of card game and how to conduct a suitable fiction layer for card.

The combination of fictional layer of the card and the game mechanics in Magic The Gatehring inspired me greatly. For instance, the demon card in the game tempt players with attactive rewards, and let player decide whether they are going to bear the consequence of this rewards.

Inspired by this, I decide to connect the main game mechanic to the fictional layers of different schools. For instance, Taoism haa a central concept of follow the change of nature, so I let players using Taoism card group to throw a dice to determine the effect of the card.

GAME FLOW

●#1 Pick one card group from five card groups 
●#2 Pick 40 cards out of the card group (3 card with same contents at most)
●#3 Two player each pick 7 cards at the start of the game and grab another one in each turn.
●#4 Two players using fee to purchase servants, picking 1 card every round to cause damage to each other’s servants and points.
●#5 One of the player’s point reach zero, or have no card left.
●#6 Game end, the other player win the game.

CORE GAMEPLAY MECHANICS

Gaming system

Two players both start with 7 cards in hand and grab a new card per round. The amount of fee that players have at the beginning of the game is 2, yet it increase by 1 every round and eventually stop at 10 fee per round. Every round, players’ fee return to its new value no matter how much are utilized. At the end of each round, the player must abandon one card, and the total number of card in their hand should not 10 in total.
-<How it works>
There are totally 20 point for each player when the game start. When a player’s point return to zero, the player’s opponent win the game. If a player’s card runoff first, then the player’s opponent also win the game. The core mechanics is about using servant and instant card to cost damage to opponent’s servant and point. The life of servant would be recovered in the next round as long as it is not destroyed. Servant could be used to protect the point by taking damage.
